Crafting is a big feature of MMORPGs, and Stargate Worlds will be no different. With the variety of alien technologies and the ability to find different raw materials on different planets, the crafting experience will certainly be a rich one.
Rather than a 'put the ingredients in a box and press the go button' crafting system common to other MMOs, Stargate Worlds may incorporate minigames into the crafting process.[1] This will complement the already robust minigame system under development for other types of non-combat gameplay.
Reverse engineering will also play a significant role in crafting. Players will be able to pull apart items from outside their race's tech tree to learn their workings. They will then gain the knowledge of the technology used in that item.[2] In addition, deconstructing items will be a way to obtain necessary crafting materials.[3]
Crafting and construction will not just be a solo activity. It will have a guild orientation as well. There will be guild specific crafting and guild construction, utilizing the many skills and the sheer manpower of guilds for working on larger projects.[4] For example, a Goa'uld Ha'tak class mothership (if and when player owned space vehicles are implemented, see Expansions) may take the pooled resources of several guilds to complete.[5]
Crafting will be an important part of the economy. Crafters will require items from the world around them which they can either source themselves or trade for from other players. The developers are committed to having crafters able to make items that other players will want.[6]
It has been stated that the crafting scheme will fall somewhere between that of the WOW-style and the SWG-style. It will be more robust than what is in WOW, but not so extensive as in SWG (Pre NGE). Also, there will not be player owned shops, at least at launch.[7]

[edit] Crafting Skills
There are four applied sciences or crafting trees, they are Bio-Medical, Electronics, Materials and Power Systems.[8] Technology will come from four sources in the game.[9] Only three (Human, Goa'uld, and Asgard) have been confirmed.[10] It is likely that Ancient technology will make up the fourth tree.
Players will level up each tree and gain access to new blueprints and things to craft. Characters will initially gain the shared skills from their own culture's skill trees, and open up other culture's skill trees once they reach a higher level.[11][12]
[edit] Craftable Items
Players will be able to craft weapon enhancements such as telescopic sights for guns and energy relays for staff weapons. It is enhancements like these that will allow players to create and own items that hold their value throughout the game. Players will also be able to create the base items, such as guns, armor, and clothing which can then be enhanced. Consumables such as medical kits and ammunition will also be able to be created by players.[13] See items and weapons. Players will also be able to craft devices that can improve a player's ability to perform at certain minigames.[14] For the most part, players will not be crafting useless items, these will be available from NPCs.[15]
[edit] Crafting Components
Players will craft items from components, not from base materials. These components may be reverse engineered from other items and perhaps looted or bought.[16]
