Expansions

This page refers to future content not intended for the initial release. As such it is highly speculative and may undergo major changes.

In addition to regular content updates, the possibility of expansion packs has been discussed. Currently there is no information on how much the expansions will cost. As with the initial release, CME will probably follow the rest of the MMORPG industry, and charge a small amount for large expansions with free regular content updates. CME is aiming for one expansion per year, with many smaller content patches.[1]

[edit] Stargate Atlantis

The first expansion planned is Stargate Atlantis.[2] Atlantis and the Pegasus Galaxy present much additional content, with 5 seasons worth of storyline by the time the game is released. It is ideal for an expansion, and this is what the developers intend for Stargate at this stage.[3][4][5]

[edit] Space and Space Flight

Player controlled ships will not be in the initial release.[6] However, missions will almost certainly take players onboard several different types of spacecraft to experience massive space battles such as seen on the television series.[7] Players will even be able to explore the entire interior of a Ha'tak class mothership.[8] Having player controlled ships has been discussed as potential content for an expansion. It has been confirmed that CME is looking to add spaceflight in an expansion, but it is still very speculative if it ever hits the gold that way.[9] While some community members believe it may be included in the Atlantis expansion, the technical aspects and massive amounts of content associated with developing space travel tends to suggest player space flight will be its own expansion. [10] There is also speculation that the third series of the Stargate franchise will be based on space travel, which would make the case for a space flight expansion much stronger. Note the third series Stargate Universe is set on board a massive Ancient ship called the Destiny that seeds stargates throughout the Universe.
