Stargate Worlds is an Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), based on the Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis TV series, with playable areas based on historical & fictional human time periods, alien environments, and outer space locations.

The Game is being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME).

The Closed Beta test is currently underway CME is still seeking testers, adding more as the beta progresses. You can sign up for a chance to be chosen for a closed beta invitation at stargateworlds.com and various fansite contests awarding beta keys are announced on the Stargate Worlds Forums. It is currently unknown when an open beta would begin.

Stargate Worlds is currently in development. The community site will be used to update everyone on both the current status and the expected release date as we proceed. CME is currently planning for a release in 2009, although this could change.

[edit] Why Stargate SG-1/Atlantis?

Stargate SG-1/Atlantis is an ideal property for a science fiction MMO. With 10 seasons of SG-1 and 4+ seasons of Atlantis, the wealth of story material is unmatched in breadth and depth. Players will encounter alien and human adversaries, visit exotic locations, space travel, and embroil themselves in major conflicts that span the galaxy. All this contained in a modern fictional universe that could be our own.

[edit] What will differentiate Stargate Worlds from the existing products on the market?

Stargate Worlds provides players with a form of squad-based ranged combat unique to an MMORPG that will take full advantage of modern and science fiction weaponry, cover, and terrain. CME also plans on focusing on non-combat gameplay to allow players a rich crafting and construction experience. The unique game experience will be played with state-of-the art graphics and technology.

The current plan is for players to choose to play the ‘Big Four’ races within the Stargate Universe. Humans, Jaffa, Goa’uld and Asgard.

The pricing strategy and structure has not yet been finalized. The game will be pay to play in addition to having a box price. Expect both to be industry standard.

[edit] Will Stargate Worlds be released on Mac, or consoles?

Currently the plan for Stargate Worlds is to make the initial release for Windows. CME is currently investigating whether they will also release the game on Mac or consoles at a later date.

Yes, CME plans on launching the game globally. Although the game will focus only on English and some European languages on initial release.

CME will market Stargate Worlds as an MMORPG that can be played by anyone including Stargate SG-1 fans, current MMO players, gamers, and even non-gamers. The game will be "easy to learn, hard to master".

[edit] Is Stargate Worlds related to The Alliance, the Stargate game from Perception?

No, CME partnered with MGM in Sept 2005 for the development of an MMORPG. They have no relationship with Perception.
