Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment are constructing an elaborate and complex questing environment. Quests will be an essential facet of Stargate Worlds in that they will be the primary vehicle that drives the game's story line. These quests will take place within the storyline that the developers have created around the Stargate SG-1 story and will take characters all over the universe and answer some questions that the show never did. These quests can also be expected to create more questions.[1] Missions will also form an integral part of a character's leveling progression.[2] CME have also added some twists to the traditional MMO quest architecture that may involve guilds, non-combat activities, squads and exploration.[3] Some quests may be able to be accomplished in a variety of ways for example using open force, diplomacy, stealth or technology. How you complete a given quest may be entirely up to the player.[4] There might also be faction based missions, that are competitive against the other faction in the server, but which do not include PvP as the means.[5] Also, there might be missions, that are done in co-operation with the other faction.[6] Most of the missions will probably take place off-world, but there are missions on Earth too, at SGC.

Players can expect quests to be significantly more storyline and character driven than in other MMO's. There will be less "Fed-Ex" and "Kill X of Y" quests in Stargate Worlds. Many quests will have multiple steps, leading a player through a particular storyline and both the open worlds and instanced zones. In fact players will always have at least one quest that relates to the main storyline arc in their quest log, in addition to any side quests they choose to do.[7][8] The Stargate as a transportation device will also be used as a method to speed up quests and reduce the time spent travelling to a quest location.[9]

The process by which players accept quests will be streamlined from other MMORPGs. Players will be offered missions in the form of 'lures', a one line summary of the mission. For example "Rescue Teal'c from the clutches of the System Lords" or "Go and capture the Shol'va on Chulak". Players may accept or decline the mission or ask for further information. This option provides details about the mission, dialogue and maybe even a scripted cut-scene, but only if the player wants to view it. In addition players will be able to obtain missions from sources other than NPC's such as combining items or solving puzzles.[10] All mission details are entered in the player's log which can be referred to when needed. Thus the mundane detail of so many mission dialogues is avoided allowing the player to concentrate on the storyline and whatever drama or humour it contains.[11] There will always be at least one 'A' story mission in the players log, along with as many faction or 'B' story missions as you have taken.[12]

[edit] Archetype Missions

There is definitely going to be archetype based questing in Stargate Worlds. Each archetype will have it's own storyline arc through which players will gain a window on the storyline for the whole universe. Each archetype will have it's own perspective on the universal storyline, enhancing replayability. In particular during the first couple of hours of gameplay will center a character on their archetype's path.[13] These quests will draw players into their own personal storyline.[14] Archetype based questing will offer better rewards for that archetype than other questing and will take you all over the galaxy.[15] For other quests there may be a variety of ways to accomplish it that different archetypes will excel at.[16] Different mission lines try to reflect the archetype itself. For example the archeologist's own questline will contain less fighting than, for example a Jaffa questline would contain.[17]

[edit] Mission Rewards

Mission rewards are likely to be as varied as the quests themselves. One interesting possibility is being rewarded badges, medals or some other decoration for reaching certain goals or completing specific missions.[18]
